Transients Key Science Project Meeting 2014

Jodrell Bank Control Room

The next LOFAR Transients Key Science Project collaboration meeting will take place on 9-10 September 2014 and will be held at Jodrell Bank Observatory, the radio astronomy facility of The University of Manchester. As well as discussion of ongoing scientific and development projects, this provides an opportunity to discuss the results from Cycle 1 observations. All Transients Key Project members, and their invited guests, are welcome

The study of transient sources is one of the key science projects of LOFAR. Under this remit come all time-variable astronomical radio sources, including pulsars, gamma-ray bursts, X-ray binaries, radio supernovae, flare stars, and even exo-planets. With its continuous monitoring of a large area of sky, it is hoped that LOFAR will detect many new transient events, and provide alerts to the international community for follow-up observations at other wavelengths. The Transients Key Project consists of four primary working groups:

The Scientific Organising Committee for this meeting are: Ben Stappers, Rob Fender and Ralph Wijers

The Local Organising Committee are: Ben Stappers, Sally Cooper, Pat Stanway, Ant Holloway and Christine Jordan.

We are grateful to the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics, and the School of Physics and Astronomy for sponsoring this meeting.

Getting to your hotel

By Airplane

The closest airport is Manchester International Airport.

By Train

Transport to the hotel by train can best be arranged by using the National Rail Enquiries website. Although for Wilmslow and Alderley edge this can be a longish wait, and getting to your hotel is likely quickest by taxi.

By Taxi

If you wish to take a taxi from the airport, then we recommend using Arrow Cars rather than a black cab as they are considerably cheaper. You can find the Arrow Car desk inside the terminals (Terminal 1 just outside) at the airport or you can book them online.
