Telescope Pointing and Control

As the wavelength at which a telescope is used decreases, so does the beamwidth of the telescope. It is thus necessary to "point" the telescope with higher precision so that the radio source always remains in the centre of the beam. As the upgraded telescope will be, in future, used at shorther wavelengths the present drive and control system will be replaced by state-of-art technology to increase the precision of the positional control. At present many of the motors that drive the telescope are controlled together, but the new system will provide individual control for each drive motor.
