The Blue Book
This document is the original memo, put together by Lovell and Husband (the consulting engineer on the project), written for DSIR (the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, the Government department which provided a large proportion of the funds required to construct the telescope) outlining the plans for the Mk 1 telescope. It describes the research carried out by Lovell and his fellow researchers and students at the Jodrell Bank site up to that time, the scientific reasons for building a fully steerable telescope 250 feet in diameter, and some details of the engineering which would be required in order to complete the project, including details of the radio freqency design, control mechanisms, power requirements and the siting of the telescope. This book was written in 1951 and bound in blue cloth, hence the name.
The book is about 100 pages long, including figures, and it is split up into sections of ten pages each for easy navigation.
