Positions Available
PDRA: Massive Star and Stellar Cluster Formation, July 2011
This position will focus on the study of the formation and early
evolution of massive stars and stellar clusters in the Milky Way and
is part of the STFC rolling grant
"Gas, dust and stars: the life
cycle of galaxies" held by the
Galactic
Astrophysics group in the
Jodrell Bank Centre
for Astrophysics. This position will exploit various surveys
including the
Hi-GAL
survey, which is using Herschel to survey the plane of the Milky
Way, the
Methanol MultiBeam
Survey and the
Spitzer Dark
Cloud survey to study the formation of massive stars and stellar
clusters. In addition the position will involve making relevant
additional observations with ground-based observatories such as ALMA,
APEX, JCMT, EVLA, GBT and e-Merlin.

Applicants should have a PhD in physics, astrophysics or a closely
related field. Applications containing a completed application form,

soon as possible and no later than 31 August 2011.
The position is available immediately and is funded until 31 March
2014, with the possibility of renewal, subject to available
funds. Knowledge of and experience in infrared, submillimetre and/or
other relevant astronomy techniques will be advantageous. The starting
salary will be in the range £29,099 to £30,870 per year.
