Long (≈170 words)

Dr Eamonn Kerins is a Reader in Astronomy at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics, The University of Manchester. His research focuses on discovering and characterising exoplanets — planets orbiting other stars — and on mapping how planetary systems vary across our Galaxy.

He is the ESA-appointed scientist to the exoplanet survey of NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, where he also leads exoplanet demographics for the mission's transit science team. He previously led the Exoplanet Science Working Group for ESA's Euclid mission and its Galactic Bulge Survey. His team made the first confirmed discovery of an exoplanet from space using gravitational lensing, with NASA's Kepler telescope.

Eamonn has appeared regularly on BBC Breakfast since 2022, and on BBC Radio 4, 5 Live, 6 Music, BBC World Service and BBC News, discussing everything from the James Webb Space Telescope to the Artemis II Moon mission.
