The Jodrell Bank Development Lab. An integral part of the Nuffield Radio Astronomy Laboratories in the Heart of Cheshire England.

The Lovell
Radio Telescope

The Worlds first large radio telescope was inaugurated in 1957,
and was the brain-child of
Sir Bernard Lovell.

With a bowl diameter of 250 feet (76 metres)
the telescope is the largest in the UK

The Development Laboratory is at the forefront of low-noise cooled RF amplifier design and construction.

The amplifiers are constructed for use on the 4 telescopes at our primary site here in Cheshire, and also at 5 remote telescope sites controlled from Jodrell Bank.

The remote telescopes are associated with-

MERLIN
(Multi Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network).
