Marie Curie Conference (MC2)

Monday 10th April - Wednesday 12th April 2006

Poster Presentations

I am very pleased that you are coming to Manchester to MC2 with a poster of your work. Below you will find a few pointers which will hopefully help you design your poster and feel confident the conference.

All posters will be displayed throughout the conference in the main hall. All delegates will pass though this space to access rooms used for the conference. It will also be the space in which refreshments are served during breaks in the programme.

As the main benefit of a poster is gained through interaction between yourself and other delegates, times have been also allotted when you will be expected to be available for questions by your poster. These are:

Monday 10th April, 14.30-15.00
Tuesday 11th April, 13.30-14.00

You are recommended to laminate your poster before leaving home as this will help carrying it and save if from the general knocks or road, rail and air travel. To fix your poster to the display board please bring Velcro rather than drawing/push pins.

When you design your poster, you should bear in mind that this conference is a multidisciplinary event. This means that many members of your audience will not be from your field or discipline. As a central theme of the conference is public engagement with science you will provoke better discussion from your audience if you present your work in an accessible manner.

Also remember that poster sessions can get busy so try to ensure that your poster is clear, text is not too small and the pictures and diagrams are clear at a reasonable reading distance. Your poster should cover the key points rather than all the finer details or your research: As a general rule of thumb keep your poster to less than 1000 words.

Your poster must be no bigger than A0 (841mm by 1189mm). A guide template is available on the conference website in order to help format your poster. Your layout will, of course, vary depending on your content but so that there is consistency between posters please work within the template.

I hope this helps you plan your presentation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate in emailing me at Jason.Rutter@manchester.ac.uk.
