Uranus

Description: A colour image of Uranus, showing its very small, very colourless and not very exciting disc. But still - it's there! Several moons can also be seen in the image, at (from the planet outwards) 45 degrees, 75 degrees, 200 degrees and 210 degrees clockwise from the top of the image. Uranus's satellites orbit face on to us now (and will do for the next few years).

Image information: 10 x 2s unfiltered and 8 x 5s R V B band image staken 17/07/06 at 13deg above the horizon. Contrast is gamma-scaled to gamma = 4, but image is otherwise unaltered.

Description: A monochrome image of Uranus, enhanced to bring out its moons. In order of distance from Uranus, they are: Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania and Oberon.

Image information: 16 x 3s unfiltered images staken 21/07/06. An unsharp mask has been performed and the image has been scaled by a factor of 2.
