A recent paper contains work done with Wouter Vlemmings (a Marie Curie Fellow at Jodrell Bank) and Hiroshi Imai (Kagoshima University). We used the VLBA to observe the polarisation of the twin H2O maser jets towards the late-type star W43A. We were able to show, for the first time, that magnetic fields are confining a jet. W43A is in transition to a planetary nebula and we suspect that the phenomenon we have observed may be one of the mechanisms that results in the beautiful asymmetic shapes of the nebulae.
You can read the paper here.
A press release, with an artist's impression of the W43A system, can be found here.
