NGC6751

Description: NGC6751 is a small, 12th magnitude planetary nebula in Aquilla, formed when a small/medium star reaches the end of its active life and blows off its outer atmosphere (which becomes the nebula) as the star's core becomes a white dwarf. See the Hubble image of this nebula here.

Image information: Stacked, dark-subtracted, registered combination of 20 x 15s white light images. The image has been magnified by a factor of 2 and undergone an unsharp mask to improve feature clarity. Image taken 30/06/2006.

Physical information: Magnitude: 11.9, size: 26", distance: between 5000 and 9000 light years
