NGC6503

Description: NGC6503 is a spiral galaxy with many bright knots where star-frming is taking place. It is one of the most northerly bright galaxies, which means we can track it well as the Earth rotates. The light streaks on the image are caused by over-sensitive pixels on the camera. The bright star is magnitude 8.3 - ten times fainter than can be seen with the naked eye!

Image information: Stacked, dark-subtracted, registered combination of 15 x 90s unfiltered images. Image taken 17/07/2006.

Physical information: Magnitude: 10.2, size: 6.2'x2.3', s.b.: 13.3 mag/sq', p.a. 123deg, classification: Sc III.
