A Virtual Guided Tour of Jodrell Bank
There is no public access to the research laboratories at Jodrell Bank Observatory. But these web pages take you on a virtual behind-the-scenes mini-tour of the day-to-day running of Jodrell Bank.
- The Site
A labelled panorama of the Observatory showing where the Telescopes, Control Rooms, Observing Rooms and Laboratories are located. - The Control Room
The heart of Jodrell Bank operations where telescopes are controlled, meteorological conditions and engineering systems monitored. - The Lovell Observing Room
Single dish observations are coordinated, and signal processing performed with equipment located in the Lovell Observing Room. - The MERLIN Suite
MERLIN observations and the correlation of telescope signals occurs in the MERLIN observing suite. - The UK VLBI Centre
VLBI observations, when telescopes at Jodrell Bank and Cambridge are linked to others across the world, are coordinated and recorded in the UK VLBI Centre. - The Link Hut
Jodrell Bank's hydrogen maser is located in the link hut, where signals from the remote telescopes also arrive.
