27th - 29th September 2007, University of Manchester

The SKA is at a very exciting stage in its development with substantial Global resources being invested in demonstrators, technical development and scientific projections. This series of meetings is to consolidate international thinking into initial specifications for the SKA Phase 1 and the full SKA. Everyone who has an interest in the SKA or has a contribution to make to the SKA debate is invited.

The venue is the new Turing Building, which will be housing the ISPO from late 2007. The location can be found on the Map of the main University campus

This meeting is an opportunity to meet all the groups involved in the SKA, to present your ideas and to hear of all the concepts being put forward internationally. The goal of the meeting is to discuss the technical and scientific aspects for a draft SKA specification document for both Phase 1 and the full SKA. Background information will come from reports prepared by the Specifications Tiger Team.

The meeting takes place over 3 days:

  • a half day at the start for individual Working Group (SWG, EWG, and others) meetings,
  • 2 days of inter-WG interaction to discuss and debate the science-engineering trade-offs presented in a draft document on the initial specifications for SKA Phase 1 and the full SKA, and
  • a final half-day to wrap-up and agree a consolidated view.

The draft specifications document and any modifications resulting from SKA2007 will be presented to the ISSC for approval at their meeting on 6-7 October. These specifications will be the starting point for the SKA design work to be carried out in the next 4 years in the context of PrepSKA.

There is funding available for travel support to attend this meeting. For more information and to apply, please email Richard Schilizzi before 30 August 2007 at: schilizzi --at-- skatelescope.org.

Registration for SKA2007 is now closed. If you have not registered there are a few reserved places which may still be available, please apply by email to Richard Schilizzi for consideration at: schilizzi --at-- skatelescope.org.

Please note: for logistical reasons the conference dinner, GBP35 and the optional tour, GBP5, will need to be paid for in cash (sorry, no credit cards or cheques) on Thursday 27 September.

We look forward to seeing you there.
