The Optical Fibre Test Facility for the University of Manchester

Under the Joint Research Equipment Initiative (JREI), Jodrell Bank has purchased research equipment to build up an optical test facility for the benefit of the University of Manchester. The equipment is used for research projects in the propagation of short pulses over long distances using optical fibre, and in the development of wide band data communication links for both radio astronomy and next generation data communication systems.
The facility is also used for undergraduate teaching, where 3rd and 4th year physics undergraduates are trained in modern techniques in optical fibre communication. The equipment enhances the technical resources available to the University of Manchester for the development of new data communications applications.

The Optical test Facility includes the following equipment:-
