Jodrell Bank Observatory

The Astronomical A-List

Compiled by Ian Morison
This is a list of 50 of the best objects to observe in the sky - both northern and southern hemispheres - using your eyes, binoculars or a small telescope.   Specially drawn star charts will show you where they are in the sky, and the accompanying text will show you how best to find them, what they are and what you might expect to see.

In addition, a number of observing awards sponsered by the University of Mancheter and the Society for Popular Astronomy will be given on the submission of observing logs of these objects.   Bronze, Silver and Gold awards will be given dependent on the number of objects observed, and these may be "starred" in the case of exceptional logs.
