Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in astronomy, astrophysics or a related subject, appropriate experience in radio-astronomical data reduction, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently. Two or more years of relevant post-doctoral research and a good record of timely publication would be advantageous. Starting salary currently in the range £18,893 - £22,954 per annum, rising to £19,460 - £23,643 pa in August 2004 (Research Grade IA).
This post is available immediately for up to three years with a start date before 1 October 2004. It will be based at Jodrell Bank Observatory initially, but may transfer to the main campus in Manchester at a later date.
UMIST and The Victoria University of Manchester will form a single university from 1 October 2004. Both universities guarantee, to all staff in their employment at the time, a post in the new institution at a salary level and with conditions of service equivalent to those they currently enjoy.
