What’s The Alternative? Non-research careers for scientists
Seema Sharma

Tuesday 11th April: 14:00-16:00

Many doctorate-qualified scientists make the move away from the laboratory bench either through choice or as a consequence of permanent posts in academia being scarce. What if you don't want or can't get a permanent research post? There are more options available than you think. This workshop offers an insight into alternative non-academic career paths. Learn about some of the possibilities available and how to apply your research training and skills in a new role.

Seema Sharma currently works as the European Programme Director at Science Careers.org, an online career magazine published by the research journal Science. Sharma completed a PhD in molecular neuroscience at The School of Pharmacy, University of London. She went on to work as a Technical Specialist for R&D Systems, based in Oxford, before working both as a newspaper journalist and event organiser in Birmingham, UK. In her current role she designs and organises career events around Europe tailored to the needs of early career researchers.
