Venus in visible band (left) and
with radar (right)

Ultraviolet view of Venus on the left emphasizing structure in its perpetual cloud cover. The color has been adjusted to be the same as the color in ordinary visible light (a visible band picture shows only a smooth cloudy atmosphere). On the right is a radar view of Venus' surface. Radio waves can penetrate the thick cloud layer and reflect off the rock surface. The color has been adjusted to match the color of the surface in the visible band as seen by the Venera landers.
