I am specialised in the development of novel astronomical instrumentation for Far-Infrared – Submillimetre – Millimetre frequency range. This spectral domain covers typical astronomical interests such as study of the Cosmic Microwave Background and its associated foregrounds, high-redshift galaxies, the interstellar medium and star formation.

Archeops balloon on the launchpad

Archeops

The balloon borne version of Planck-HFI has been flown several times from 1999 to 2002. While Planck is making a full sky survey, Archeops has provided a map of 30% of the sky at 143, 217, 353 and 545 GHz.

In collaboration with Spain, we are developing a ground based telescope with the goal to characterise the polarisation of the CMB and other galactic and extragalactic emissions in the frequency range 10-30 GHz, and at large angular scales.

Herschel

The Herschel ESA mission is a 3.5m space telescope with three instruments (HIFI, PACS and SPIRE). It is the only space observatory to cover a spectral range from the far infrared to sub-millimetre.

I have coordinated the work on the cold optics of the HFI (High Frequency Instrument) onboard the European Space Agency's Planck Spacecraft. I have largely contributed to the design, development and tests of the focal plane unit.
